    The Joy of Meditating

A year ago I had no idea how to mediate, nor did I think i had the time for it. I thought meditating meant sitting and not thinking and I was not able to do that. Boy was I wrong!

A long time friend of mine and colon hydrotherapist, Kim, along with my acupuncturist, Dr. Heather, recognized I was in a highly stressful time of my life and was going through a fight or flight response. They both recommended meditation to me. Kim suggested I go away for a meditation retreat for a few days, or ideally a week or two. Being a mom and business owner that was just not possible for me. I was so busy I couldn't even think of finding ten minutes to meditate. Kim contacted a local crystal store to discover that they have a group yoga nidra meditation once a month. It was the following week and I love yoga so I said i was in. Little did I know that the yoga we would be doing was mental not physical.

During the yoga nidra session we were taken on a guided journey into our inner mind. I came out feeling more connected and refreshed. I then put some feelers out into the universe and two amazing healers were sent my way. I did some sessions with Lisa at Island Breeze Crystals and Wanita of Lotus and Lily Chakra Balancing and Meditation. They have both helped in my joyful journey of meditation and becoming my authentic, higher self. I have continued on my own daily meditation journey and still continue to practice each day. I am hooked!

Every meditation, like every day, is different. On numerous occasions I will have a creative idea shortly following a mediation practice. When meditating the key is to slow the mind down and to go within. Thoughts will come and go, the challenge arises in the letting them go. It is called a practice, because it is just that. The practice of looking within to see what our soul is trying to say. The Universe is always talking to us, but are we always listening? When we are disconnected from ourselves our minds are all over the place searching, but as we become more connected within we just are. We are exactly where we are suppose to be.

Youtube and Insight Time App are great places to find different types of meditations. I enjoy the insight timer because when the meditation is complete it does not go to the next video.

I discovered Pura Rasa on Insight Timer and she is a favorite of mine and my little girls. Her voice is angelic. She offers sleep meditations too, which my little girl loves to listen to every night.

Joe Dispenza meditations are another favorite of mine. Unlike Pura Rasa, they do not often put me to sleep and can be intense at times.

You have to try different styles to see what works best for you. Try different placed too. I really enjoy meditating at the beach and sometimes set up a big mat in my back yard, soaking in sunshine, free Vitamin D, at the same time. Other times I'm in bed, as I like to meditate first when I awake and then before bed as well. We are all unique and meditating is something that we can all do. I try to think of my intension when I'm deciding on what meditation to choose. Be careful though, you can go down a deep rabbit hole searching for the perfect mediation, so having favorites really helps not waste your valuable time. At first its takes time to find your breath and comfort zone. Read some books, listen to podcasts talking about meditating, put the energy into the universe and before you know it meditations will be sent your way that are just perfect for your day.

If you are having challenges meditating try connecting with someone in your area. Search for someone that you feel comfortable with to help you learn the practice of meditation. Going inside ourselves to connect with our spirit or soul is key to our life's joyful journey. The joy of meditating is inside you!
